Karl Marx- believe that religion were part of of the superstructure of capitalism. Its main function was to benefit capitalism power of the ideology. Suggests inequality is god given and unchangeable. Teachers the poor that poverty is a test from god which they will be compensated
Example- convincing the proletariat to acccept inequality religion is succeeding its purpose to promote false class consciousness.
What is the opium?
Marx saw religion way of comforting the proletariat about the alienation ( feeling distanced) expense of he workplace. Religion is the opiate of the masses- meaning it dulls the pain to detract from their exploitation.

What is Hindu caste system
Caste system is a good illustration. Hindus believe that they are born into caste they are being p;unished by god based on their actions. If born into lower caste=being punished
