Base mesh UV unwrapping
I think un-fused base meshes such as torus are pre UV unwrapped.
make sure to have a square representation UV canvass
May need to double the width: Texture paint: image workspace(left), “+ new”(topish center), change “width” amount to 1024px to 1024*2
purple/pink texture paint object
indicates it’s texture is missing.
Texture paint images are saved separately from blender files.
TP, IA, upper left area, “image”(dm), “save”(alt+s) or “save as” (shift+alt+s)

allow for painted image texture
“shading” tab, go2nodes area, shift+a, texture(em),image texture.
tether “color” from “image texture” to “Principled BSDF” “base color”
on “image texture” select image file select to left of “+ new” and choose desired file.
