What is the assessment to test the radial nerve?
extend wrist or thumb like thumbs up
What is the assessment to test the median nerve?
oppose thumb to index finger
What is the assessment to test the ulnar nerve?
fan out fingers testing sensation to digits 4 & 5
how often should you recieve the tetanus shot?
every 10 for everyday people
every 5 for contaminated
what does tetanus cause if contaminated?
- lockjaw
- add 250 units IM immunoglobulin if unsure of initial vaccine
what foreign body can be seen on an xray?
glass, metal (coin & razors), stone
wood is seen by ultrasound, CT, & MRI
remove vegetative material ASAP, do not soak or it swells
avoid lido with epi to what body parts
(decrease circulation)
ears
nose
fingers & toes
penis
how long do adhesive tape strips last on lacerations?
7-10 days or until they fall off
avoid petroleum ointment
suture removal to face?
3-5 days
staple removal from head?
10-14 days
suture removal from head or torso?
7-10 days
suture removal from leg or arm

treatment steps for traumatic amputations
-prepare for early transfer to level 1
- lightly brush of gross material (sterile saline)
- wrap amputated part in in saline moistened gauze
- do not soak in saline
= place amputated part in sealable plastic bag then place bag in separate bag of ice. don’t like amputation touch ice
compartment syndrome treatment
elevate to level of heart (neutral position)
any exernal compression
pulseleness is a late sign
fasciotomy if pressure is >30mmHg
