Neurotransmitters (DOSE and GABA) Flashcards
Describe the role of Dopamine.
Dopamine is also known as the “reward” molecule and is responsible for reward-driven and pleasure seeking behaviour.
How can you boost Dopamine?
Receive positive enforcement, complete a task on a to-do list or set and achieve a goal.
Describe the role of oxytocin.
Oxytocin is also known as the “bonding” molecule and is directly linked to human bonding and increasing trust and loyalty. It strengthens social relationships, trust, emotional connection and can help promote long-lasting positive emotions.
How can you boost Oxytocin?
Positive social interactions and physical touch.
Describe the role of Serotonin.
Serotonin is also known as the “happiness” molecule and is associated with mood, cognition, learning and memory. It helps us feel calm and focused.
How can you boost Serotonin?
Sunlight or light therapy, a nutritious diet, getting enough sleep.
Describe the role of Endorphins.
Endorphins are also known as the “pain-killing” molecule. They causes “runner’s high” and are produced during strenuous physical exertion or pain.
How can you boost endorphins?
Exercise, cold showers or ice baths.
Describe the role of GABA.
GABA is also known as the “calming” molecule and is an inhibitory neurotransmitter which calms the nervous system. It helps you get good sleep, relax, and wind down. It reduces the overactivity of the brain to improve attention, empathy and emotional intelligence.
How can you boost GABA?
Relaxation, meditation, exercise and deep breathing.
What does GABA stand for?
Gamma-aminobutyric acid
