Neuroscience Flashcards
Most concentrated ion in cell
K+
Glutamate
+ NT
What cells in the retina use glutamate?
PR, bipolar, ganglion.
FEF
Saccades and contralateral. ie. saccade to right from left FEF
Pursuits
Ipsilateral and parental lobe.
Function of the frontal lobe
personality, planning, production of speech (Aphasia. Broca’s area-production of speech). Also motors execution.
Parietal Lobe
Sensory and recognition. Pursuits. Ipsilateral. i.e. could tell you a pen is used for writing but couldn’t tell you what it is called.
Temporal Lobe
Temporary House Worker. Hippocampus-short term memory and smells to memory. Wernicke’s-wordy speech.
Preganglianic PS in eyes
Edinger westfault
Post gangliari PS in eye
Ciliary ganglian.
Medulla
Many crossings here. Many autonomic functions.
INO Detection
Eye in nystagmus in gaze is normal eye and there would be contralateral lesion of MLF. One eye cannot adduct. Common in MS.
Where is MLF ?
Medulla.
Where is the SC?
Midbrain
Hypothalmus
Think about a car. The sunroof=circardian. The gas=hunger. The radiator=temperature.
Where is EW nucleus
Midbrain
Diencephalon
Outgrowth of eye. All of the thalamus.
Branches of Aorta
ABC’S. Brachiocephalic trunk (suplies right side), Left common carotid, subclavian.
Internal carotid artery is a branch of the
Brachiocephalic
Branches of the ICA
OPAM. Ophthalmic, posterior communicating, Anterior cerebral, Middle Cerebral.
Vertebral Arteries form
Basilar arteries that then connect to Posterior cerebral arteries then to Posterior communicating artery.
Pallor nerve that is excavated
Think glaucoma
Pallor nerve that is pallid
Think Primary or secondary
Primary Pallor nerve with pallid?
No outside source. Toxic, hereditary, trauma, ortho=dead cell bodies, vs. retro=dead axons.
Unilateral edematous ON
Between chasm and nerve. Vascular-DM and CRVO. Ischemic-AION, NION, Compressive-thyroid, Inflame-sarcoid, TB, syphilis, lupus.
Bilateral edematous ON
Behind chasm. Inflammatory-sarcoid, TB, shypilis, lupus. Papilledema, HTN, IIH.
What drugs cause IIH
CANT. Contraceptives, acutane, Naladixic acid, Tetracycline.
