Neuronal communication Flashcards
What does the CNS consist of?
Brain
Spinal cord
What does the PNS consist of?
all the neurones that connect the CNS to the rest of the body
What is the Somatic nervous system?
System under conscience controls, the movement id voluntary.
somatic nervous system carries impulses to the muscles
What is the automonic nervous system?
Works under sub conscience control.
The autonomic nervous system carries impulses to glands, smooth muscle and cardiac muscle.
What does the autonomic system divide into?
sympathetic and parasympathetic
Sympathetic motor system=
“fight or flight”
Parasympathetic motor system=
rest and digest
What is the function of the cerebrum?
controls voluntary action, such as learning, memory, personality and conscious thought
What is the function of the cerebellum?
controls the unconscious functions
balance
What is the function of the medulla oblongata ?
Used in autonomic control, heart rate and breathing.
peristalsis
ventilation
What is the function of the Hypothalamus?
Regulatory centre.
Homeostasis
controlling behaviour
monitoring the composition of blood plasma
What is the function of the pituitary gland?
stores and release hormones
What is the structure of the cerebrum?
highly convoluted= increased SA
left and right half know as the cerebral hemispheres
outer layer of cerebral hemisphere= cerebral cortex
What Is the structure of the pituitary gland?
found at base of hypothalamus.
split into 2 sections
What are the two sections of the pituitary gland?
Anterior (front)
Posterior(back)
