Neuromuscular Junction Blocking Agents Flashcards
What do neuromuscular junction blocking agents do?
- Paralytic
- Blocking communication and stopping movement.
- Does not cause CNS depression
What do neuromuscular junction blocking agent not do?
Cause CNS depression
What do non depolarizing neuromuscular junction blockers do?
Act as antagonists to acetylcholine (ACh) at the NMJ and prevent depolarization of muscle cells.
What do depolarizing neuromuscular junction blockers do?
Act as an Ash agonist, causing stimulation of the muscle cell and preventing it from repolarizing.
True or False:
The neuromuscular junctions blocking agent are hydrophobic and do cross the blood brain barrier.
False:
They are hydrophilic and DO NOT cross the blood brain barrier.
What is the main action of NMJ blocking agents?
Cause prolonged muscle contractions then paralysis
