Neurofibromatosis Flashcards
1
Q
Rinne’s test positive
A
Sensorineural hearing loss
- air conduction still louder than bone conduction
2
Q
Causes of sensorineural hearing loss
A
Meningitis
Meniére’s disease
Neurofibromatosis (type 2)
3
Q
Otitis media + foreign body
A
Do not cause sensorineural hearing loss
4
Q
Difference between Meniere’s and neurofibromatosis
A
Neurofibromatosis - bilateral acoustic neuromas so bilateral sensorineural hearing loss
Meniere’s - unilateral sensorineural hearing loss + other symptoms (e.g. tinnitus)
5
Q
Vertigo + sensorineural hearing loss
A
Neurofibromatosis (acoustic neuromas grow and affect the cochlear (hearing loss) AND vestibular nerve = vertigo)
