What are the 2 patterns of Neurodermatitis and which is acute/chronic
Acute: Wind damp mixed with heat
Chronic: Blood Xu with wind dryness
short duration, coalescing of the skin lesions in to a patch and thickening and coarsening of the affected skin with red spots and scarring
Tongue: Red with red spots on the tip, yellow coating
Wind Damp mixed with heat
Long duration, whitish gray colour of the skin in the affected area which also thickens and coarsens, dry skin, sloughing off the scales
palpations, insomnia, fatigue and weakness
Tongue: Pale with white coating
Pulse: Fine and weak
Blood Xu with wind dryness

How would you use stick moxa on an individual with neurodermatitis
start from the outside, gradually moving into the center
would want the skin to turn fresh red
Takes about 30 minutes
What are the 2 types of moxa would you use on an individual with neurodermatitis
Stick and rice moxa
How would you use rice moxa on neurodermatitis
- apply one layer of garlic paste and place rice moxa and burn complete till ash and only have to do this once
modified: have several rice moxa and burn till hot not ash
cover different layers and areas
If there are blisters, it is not an inflamed blister
what are the main points in using to treat neurodermatitis
GB 20, Du 14, Sp 10, LI 11, PC 6, UB 40, H7, Kid6, ashi points
which auricular points would you use on neurodermatitis
Lu, Shenmen, Adrenal gland, endocrine, Liv, Skin lesion that correspond to the area
veins on the back of the ear, cuttiing/bleeding technique 3-5 drops of blood
How would you educate your patient?
Cope with stress
avoid scratching - can cause secondary infection, tapping is better
Dont use hot water, it will over stimulate and make it worse
Cortisosteroid will irritate the skin
Stay away from fish, seafood, shrimp, eat more vegs and fruits
