Cancer that starts in certain, very early forms of nerve cells, most often found in an embryo or fetus.
Where do most neuroblastomas begin?
In the abdomen, either in an adrenal gland or in sympathetic nerve ganglia.
What is the typical age of patients with neuroblastomas?
Patients are usually younger than 2 years old.
Can neuroblastomas spontaneously regress?
Yes, they can spontaneously regress.
What is the most common extracranial CNS tumor?
Neuroblastoma.
What gene mutation is linked to neuroblastomas?
n-myc gene mutation.
What are the most common sites for neuroblastomas?
Adrenal medulla, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis.
What are the treatment options for neuroblastomas?
Surgery (stem cell transplant), chemotherapy, radiation therapy (palliative).
