Neuroanatomy Flashcards
What three structures make up the brain stem?
Midbrain, pons, medulla.
What are the five divisions of the CNS?
- Cerebral cortex.
- Diencephalon.
- Brain stem.
- Cerebellum.
- Spinal cord.
What cortex lies in the precentral gyrus?
Primary motor cortex.
What cortex lies in the postcentral gyrus?
Primary somatosensory cortex.
What happened to Phineas Gage? What did this do for neuroscience development?
Massive lesion resulting in the destruction of frontal lobes, altered personality. Helped localization of brain functions.
What are the two pathways for visual processing?
Dorsal (parietal) and ventral (temporal).
Optic Ataxia
Disorder in translating vision into action.
Where must a lesion occur to cause optic ataxia?
Dorsal stream.
Visual form agnosia
Inability to recognize objects.
Are those with optic ataxia able to perceive objects?
Yes.
Are those with visual form agnosia able to perceive objects?
No.
Are those with visual form agnosia able to act on objects?
Yes.
Are those with optic ataxia able to act on objects?
No.
Hemineglect
Inability to perceive half of the visual field due to unilateral damage in the parietal lobe.
What are the two vital neural tracts in the hippocampus?
CA1 and CA3
