What is a Febrile Convulsion?
A
A type of seizure that occurs in children with a high fever.

Aetiology of Febrile Convulsion.
A
NO UNDERLYING NEUROLOGICAL PATHOLOGY e.g. Epilepsy, Meningitis, Tumour.

Epidemiology of Febrile Convulsion.
A
Between 6 Months and 5 Years.

What are Simple Febrile Convulsions?
A
Generalised tonic-clonic seizure that last less than 15 minutes and occur only once during an illness.

What are Complex Febrile Convulsions?
A
Partial/Focal seizures, lasting more than 15 minutes and occurring multiple times during the same illness.

Diagnosis of Exclusion.

Management of Febrile Convulsion.
A
- Manage Underlying Source of Infection.
- Control Fever - Simple Analgesia.
- Parents’ Advice on Seizure Management.

Advice to Parents for Future (5).
A
- Stay with Child.
- Safe Place e.g. Carpeted Floor with Pillow.
- Recovery Position and Away from Source of Injury.
- Nothing in their Mouth.
- Ambulance After 5 minutes.
