Neuro Flashcards
Spinal accessory nerve
CN XI
Splits into 2 roots immediately:
- Cranial root (from medulla, joins vagus n.)
- Spinal root (from upper spinal cord segments C1-5; innervates trap/SCM)
exits vis jugular foramen
purely motor nerve
Long thoracic nerve
innervates serratus anterior
pure motor
Damage: winging of scapula, shoulder pain, inability to raise arm above shoulder level
Thoracodorsal nerve
Innervates latissimus dorsi
Damage: weakened pull-ups, inability to adduct, extend, or internally rotation arm
Intercostobrachial nerve
innervates skin to upper inner arm
damage: numbness and pain to upper inner arm
Sural nerve
sensory nerve
supplies posterolateral distal 1/3 of leg, lateral surface of foot/heel/ankle
Courses along short saphenous vein in distal calf
Saphenous nerve
sensory nerve
supplies medial surface of leg/foot/ankle
courses close to great saphenous veins in calf
Peroneal nerve
Sensory & motor
Sensation to dorsum of foot
Motor - dorsiflexion
Posterior tibial nerve
Sensory & motor
Sensation: sole of foot
Motor: plantar flexion, foot inversion, toe flexion
twists around short saphenous vein near saphenopopliteal junction
lateral plantar nerve
sensory: lateral foot
motor: small muscles of foot
