nervous system and the reflex arc Flashcards
what is a synapse
connection between the neurons
how does the synapese release chemicals across to the next one
they release an electrical impulse where the chemical diffuses between the gap and recieve another electrical impulse through the neuron till it flows to the other end and restarts
what is central nervous system made up of
brain and spinal cord
what does central nervous system do
send out orders to the rest of the body
how does the cns send information back after interpretation
it send an electrical impulse back by motor neurons which or another type of nerve cell to effectors such as muscle or gland
what is a reflex arc
nerve pathway that underlies our unconscious reflexes e.g. move your hand from a hot pan
if a stimuli has hit ur hand what happens
once the stimuli has hit the pressure of the stimuli is detected by receptor cells in your skin, then stimulates a sensory neutron that will carry an impulse from your finger up to your spinal cord. inside the spinal cord it will transfer this impulse to a relay neurone. relay neurone passes it on to a motor neurone where travels out to a effector such as you bicep which will contract and move your hand away from the stimuli. between each neurone it will have synapses to pass the chemical to the next neurone
what is the role of a sensory neurone
to transfer a signal from a receptor to the cns
what is the pathway of a relfex
stimulus~>receptor~>sensory neurone~>relay neurone~>motor neurone~>effector~>response
