Nervous System And Sensory Organs Flashcards
Neurons
Nerve cells
Sensory neurons
Sense the stimulus and send messages to interneurons. Part of peripheral nervous system
Interneurons
Carry impulses through spinal cord to brain and back, and sends messages to motor neurons. Part of central nervous system.
Motor neurons
Receive impulses from interneurons. Causes response in effector organs.(muscles or glands).
Homeostasis
Constant maintenance of internal temperature, ph, and concentrations of ions, glucose, water and carbon dioxide.
Stimulus - response
The response made by the body when receiving stimulus.
Stimulus - response model
Model describe how body reacts to stimulus
Goes: stimulus -> receptor -> control centre -> effector -> response
Receptors
Identifies changes inside and out of the body.
4 types of receptors: photoreceptors, mechanoreceptors, chemoreceptors, thermoreceptors.
Effectors
Muscle or glands that receive messages from central nervous system and respond based on original stimulus.
Negative feedback system
When feedback is opposite direction of the stimulus. (eg. Chemical blood levels are too high, body lowers it.)
