Nervous System Flashcards
What is multipe sclerosis and how is it caused?
neurological condition cuased through many discrete lesions affecting myelin in CNS (not PNS)
What is stock and glove distribution and how is it commonly caused?
non-specific nerve damage will affect the longest nerves first, causing this.
Vitamin B12 deficiency
Describe the distribution of the sympathetic nervous system
Preganglionic cells in thoracic and upper lumbar, leaving via spinal nerves T1-L3 - dorsal and ventral root join to produce one spinal nerve
Sympathetic ganglia in sympathetic trunk - stellate ganglion, middle cervical ganglion, superior cervical ganglion
Describe the distribution of the parasympathetic nervous system
preganglionic nerves in brainstem (leave as cranial nerves - vagus) and in sacral (S2-4)
parasympathteic ganglia found on viscera of target cell
