Nervous System Flashcards
What is a axon?
The long, thin part of the cell
What are neurones?
Nerve cells
What is a sensory neurone?
Carry nerve impulses from the receptors to your brain
What is a relay neurone?
Make connections between neurones inside your brain and your spinal cord
What are motor neurones?
Carry nerve impulses from your brain to your muscles and glands
What is a receptor?
That part of the nervous system which detects a stimulus
What does an insulating sheath do?
Speed up the nerve impulse
What is a synapse?
A small gap between neurones
What does the iris do?
Control the amount of light that enters the eye
When receiving light rays from a near object?
Ciliary muscles contract, suspensory ligaments relax and lens is shoe and fat to refract light a lot
Receiving light rays from a distant object?
Collard muscles relax, suspensory ligaments contract and lens is long and thin because It only has to refract light a little
Common eye defects are?
Long sight, short sight and red-green colour blindness
How can long sight be corrected?
Wearing cover lens
How can short sight be corrected?
Wearing a concave lens
