Nervous System Flashcards
Sensory input
electrical impulse sent from the sensory organs
integration
processes and interprets the information received through the sensory organs.
motor output
after swiftly processing and interpreting the sensory input, transmits messages to effectors
(CNS)
the central nervous system
The CNS receives sensory input through sensory receptors,
(PNS)
peripheral nervous system
functions as the liaison between the central nervous system and the rest of the body.
Occipital
posterior part
They control vision
Temporal
lateral parts hearing, sense of smell, factual and visual memory, and language processing.
The cerebellum
brain controls your body’s sense of balance and equilibrium
frontal lobes
They control movement, reasoning, planning, problem solving, speech, and emotions.
parietal
sensory stimuli related to touch, pressure, temperature, and pain.
The Cerebrum
language, reasoning, planning, memory, and sensory integration.
The Diencephalon
It is the site of three key glands of the endocrine system
thalamus
processing and memory functions involved in the act of learning.
hypothalamus
functions such as heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, hormone production, hunger, thirst, and digestion.
pineal
secretes melatonin, a hormone that helps regulate the body’s circadian rhythm.
