Q

Neurons: Three Basic Parts

A
  • Cell Body = contains all necessary cell components including nucleus
  • Axon = carries nerve impulse or AP along length of the cell. Some covered in myelin (insulating = speed). Terminal contains synapses (junction)
  • Dendrites = small, branch-like, make connections to other cells, “talking” to other cells

Q

ANS: Sympathetic, Parasympathetic, and ENS

A

S: fight or flight - controls short-lived behaviour e.g. increased HR, respiration rate, etc.
P: rest and restore - maintains stable body functioning in normal conditions.
ENS: meshwork of nerve fibres that innervate the viscera (GI tract, pancreas, gall bladder).
