Nerves of the Pharynx and larynx Flashcards
CN IX General sensor? Special Sense? Motor?
The glossopharyngeal nerve
-Its used for general sensory from upper 1/2 of pharynx (Including posterior 1/3 of tongue)
-Auditory tube
-middle ear/
It provides special sensory (taste) from posterior 1/3 of tongue
-It provides motor function to stylopharyngeus
CN X: General sensor? Special Sense? Motor?
The Vagus Nerve
- General sensory from 1/2 of the pharynx and all the way to hindgut.
- It provides special sensory of taste around epiglottis
- it’s motor to
- -muscles of pharynx (except stylopharyngeus(CNIX))
- -all muscles of palate (Except tensor)
- -All muscles of the larynx
Superior thyroid artery contributes to laryngopharynx via what?
Via superior laryngeal artery which penetrates thyrohyoid membrane with internal laryngeal n
What does the thyrocervical trunk supplies?
Inferior thyroid to area around cricoid
external carotid branched into?
-The ascending pharyngeal - Small branch to post aspect of the pharynx, off ext. carotid
-Facial artery
Contributes to naso and oropharynx
—tonsillar branch supplies tonsillar bed
—ascending palatine branch supplies near torus tubarius
-Maxillary artery is branch of Ext. Carotid and its branched into lesser palatines which supplies soft palate.
Superior thyroid is branch of what and supplies what?
branch of the external carotid artery and it supplies laryngopharynx
What is the prevertebral region muscles enclosed in?
what are all the flexor supplied by?
The muscles are enclosed in prevertebral fascia
They are all flexors and they are supplied by segmental ventral rami
What is the longus coli attached to?
Ant. tubercles of c3-c6
What is the longus capits attached to?
its lateral to longus coli and its fibers are attached to base of the skull so can flex skull on neck.
Where is the rectus capits ant and lateralis attached to?
from transverse process of the atlas to base of the skull
What is the syympathetic trunk in the neck?
Chain of ganglia in neck reduced to three or four
What are the ganglions of the neck?
- Superior cervical ganglion
- Middle cervical ganglion
- inferior cervical ganglion
Where does the superior cervical ganglion lies, what does it provide?
Its very large
- lies on the anterior surface of longus capitis @ base of the skull
- last ganglion in the sympathetic chain. it provides postganglionic sympathetic to C1-C3 or 4, heart and lungs and all of the head.
Where does the middle cervical ganglion lies, what does it provide?
Small and inconspicuous.
-often in the cleft between longus coli and longus capitis @ C6
Where does the inferior cervical ganglion lies, what does it provide?
Often fused to 1st thoraci to form stallate ganglion
- between scalenus anterior and longus coli just superior to 1st rib.
- Major contibutor to brachial plexus.
