Provides sense of smell
Oculomotor nerve 3
Provides some eye movement. Opening of eyelid. Constriction of pupil. Focusing of eye.
Trochlear nerve 4
Provides eye movement.
Trigeminal nerve 5
Main sensory nerve from face. Major motor nerve to muscles of mastication.
Abducens nerve 6
Provides eye movement. Abducts the eye.
Facial nerve 7
Main motor nerve to muscles of the face. Provides facial expressions.
Vestibulocochlear nerve 8
Provides hearing and sense of balance
Glossopharyngeal nerve 9
Provides control over swallowing.
Vagus nerve 10
Major parasympathetic motor and sensory pathway. Regulation of internal organs. Provides swallowing, speech.
Accessory nerve 11
Provides swallowing, head, and neck shoulder movement.
Hypoglossal nerve 12
Provides tongue movements of speech, food manipulation and swallowing.
Dorsal columns
Ascending pathway for touch. Decussation in medulla. To primary somatosensory cortex.
Spinothalamic tract
Ascending pathway that carries pain and temp. Decussation in spinal cord.
Spinocerebellar tract
Ascending pathway that carries proprioception. Does not decussate.
