Nerve System Flashcards
What are the three main parts of a neuron?
Dendrites, cell body, axon
The parts of the CNS (central nervous system are)
Your brain and spinal chord
What is the layer of insulation called that surroundeds a nerve
Myelin sheath
What are the three receptors found in skin?
Touch, pain, temperature
What is the function of dendrites?
Branch out to other nerves and receive messages
What are neurotransmitters
Chemicals that get released into the space between the neuron. (Synapse)
What are sensory neurone
They carry messages to sense organs. Such as ears, eyes ect
What Is the function of a motor neurone?
Carry messages from the cns to effectors
What is a stimulus
A trigger. Like heat
What is a response
It’s the action you physically make after the stimuli
What are receptors
They are special cells that detect stimuli
What are effectors
They are muscles or glands that put the messages into effect
What are the three steps to the reflect arc?
1- arrival of stimulus and activation of receptor 2- activation of sensory neuron 3- info processing in the CNS 4- info sent to motor neurone 5- than to effector
Relay neurone is aka
Inter-neuron
What are the three neurone?
Motor
Sensory
Connecting
From the enterence of a cell to the exit name the parts
Dendrites, nucleus, cell body, axon, myelin sheath, axon terminal
What is the synapses
The connecting point between nerves. When the neurotransmitter is released.
Motor neuron in a nutshell
Causes movement is muscles
Sensory neuron in a nutshell
Carry’s sensations to cns
Connecting neuron in a nutshell
Very small, have lots of dendrites and don’t have mylein
