Grasp reflex

Suckling

- tap under lip and baby purses lips (disappearance variable but often soon after birth)
Rooting
- primitive reflex
- touch cheek, turn toward stimulus (disappears within 3-4 months )
Tonic neck
- present at birth
- lay the baby supine, turn their head, arm and leg extend on the ipsilateral side, flex on the contra lateral side
- disappears within 2-6 months
Moro’s
Startle and acoustic reflexes
- baby raises arms bilaterally in response to loud noise or light change (disappears in 4-6 months)
Babinski’s
Stroke ball of foot and dorsiflexion occurs, normal for up to 2 years
Chvostek’s
Tap the cheek
Test for tetany (CN VII)
Positive for calcium balance problem

- internal rotation and addiction of shoulder
- waiters tip
Djerine-Klumpke’s

- elbow flexed and pronates with wrist flexed
