Define the parameters for diagnosing physiological jaundice
- appears after 24 hrs of age
- total bilirubin rises 5 mg/dL per day
- total bilirubin does not exceed 15 mg/dL
- resolves by 1 week in normal neonate, 2 weeks in preemie
When does peak bilirubin occur in a neonatal with physiologic jaundice?
3-5 days of age
This form of jaundice occurs within the first 3 days of life and is associated with an inadequate intake of breast milk
