neoanalytical psychology Flashcards
Neoanalyist point of view.
Ego and conscious processes are more important than the ID
Personality development is psychosocial and not psychosexual
difference between psychoanalysis and Egopsychology in the EGO
egopsychologist would say that the ego has freedom of choice and autonomy
Hartmanns change to the model
ego is the conflict sphere but Also the conflict free-sphere responsible for the thinking, planning, acting.
pimary and secondary ego autonomy
Primary autonomy: Ego can develop in absence of conflicts (being effective in thinking/planning, intgrating information are pleasurable in themselves.
Secondary: Processes that were originally developed to meet the ID’s needs can also run in the absence of the need and can become satisfying.
Adler
Being competent is the main human motivation as white said, but for different reasons
Block & Block
what is needed for adaptation:
what is needed for adaptation according to Block and Block
to be able to restrain impulses and resist temptations
1 = (ego control)
undercontrolled = cant delay satisfaction; explores; doesnt focus; distracted.
Overcontrolled= delays gratificatiion: overorganized: high conforming
2 = ego resilience (the ability tomodify the extent of conrtol)
Jane Loevinger
Alternate developmental model. The essence of the ego: synthesis and integration of experience (not just adaptation) ego is a function: making sense of the experiences. Cognitive abilities make the egoabilities change, we have to have some challenges.
3 periods of Loevinger
Early development
Control of impulses
advanced stages
Stages of early development
1) symbolic stage
2) Impulsive stage (I have impulses, i can change the world. The source can be id but also EGO)
Stages of control of impulses
3) Selfprotective stage (learning rules to avoid punishment/ dont get caught)
4) Conformist sage: a sense of trust in the group –> veeling of shame. result:
5) Self awareness stage: Exeptions of rules change its not absolute (different group have different rules)
6) conscientious stage: same as five but shifts to internal rules from group rules.
Advanced stages
7) individualistic stage: transitional period: acceptance of uniqueness.
8) autonomous stage
9) integrated stage: inner conflicts are managed well, we like that we differ. (less that 1 percent reaches this stage)
