Neck Muscles Flashcards
what muscles elevate the hyoid bone?
mylohyoid, geniohyoid, stylohyoid, diagastric
what innervates the mylohyoid?
nerve to mylohyoid (V3)
what innervates the geniohyoid?
C1 fibers (runs with CN XII)
what innervates the stylohyoid?
cervical branch of facial (CN VII)
what innervates the digastric?
“DI”-gastric… two bellies
anterior belly: nerve to mylohyoid (V3)
posterior belly: facial (VII)
what muscles depress the hyoid bone?
sternohyoid, sternothyroid, omohyoid, thyrohyoid
what innervates the sternohyoid?
C1, C2, C3 (ana cervicalis)
what innervates the sternothryoid?
C1, C2, C3 (ana cervicalis)
what innervates the omohyoid?
C1, C2, C3 (ana cervicalis)
what innervates the thyrohyoid?
C1 fibers (run with CN XII)
what are the longitudinal muscles of the pharynx?
stylopharyngeus, salpingopharyngeus, palatopharyngeus
what are the actions of the longitudinal muscles of the pharynx?
elevates the pharynx and the larynx
except the salpingopharyngeus, which only elevates the pharynx
what innervates the stylopharyngeus?
glossopharyngeal nerve
what innervates the salpingopharyngeus?
vagus nerve (pharyngeal plexus)
what innervates the palaopharyngeus?
vagus nerve (pharyngeal plexus)
what are the circular muscles of the pharynx?
superior constrictor, middle constrictor, inferior constrictor
what is the action of the circular muscles of the pharynx?
constricts the pharynx
what innervates the circular muscles of the pharynx?
vagus nerve (pharyngeal plexus)
except the inferior constrictor is also innervated by the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve of X and the recurrent laryngeal nerve
what is the action of the lateral cricoarytenoid?
adducts the vocal ligament and assists in closing the glottis
what is the action of the posterior cricoartenoid?
abducts the vocal ligament and opens the glottis
what is the action of the thyroarytenoid?
relaxes the vocal ligament
what is the action of the vocalis?
regulates tension of segments of vocal ligament
what is the action of the cricothyroid?
tenses vocal cords
what is the action of the transverse arythenoid?
closes glottis by adducting arytenoid cartilage
