Pts head rotated to 45deg, pressure applied above ear

C1/C2 anteriorly and C3-7

Flexion of the neck
Nerve supply Longus colli
Anterior rami C2-6
Longus colli
Support the Pts head an inch or two off couch, ask pt to nod forward, resisting from the forehead.
Keep chin tucked to prevent SCM activation
Scalenes attachments
Anterior + medial = C3-7 and ant ribs 1-2
Posterior = C4-6 and 2nd rib
Movements scalenes control
Neck flexion and sidebend
Nerve supply to scalenes
Brachial plexus, C3-C8
Scalenus Anterior: anterior rami of spinal nerves C4-C6
Scalenus Medius: anterior rami of spinal nerves C3-C8
Scalenus Posterior: anterior rami of spinal nerves C6-C8
Scalene anterior
resist above eyebrow as Pt aims head towards shoulder
Scalene medial
Resist at temple while Pt aims head toward shoulder
