Pectoralis Mjr attachments
Medial half of clavicle, sternal cartilage of ribs 1-6 and bicipital groove
Pectoralis Mjr movements
Flexion, adduction and medial rotation of shoulder
Pectoralis Mjr nerve supply
The clavicular head derives its nerve supply from the lateral pectoral nerve. C5-7
The medial pectoral nerve innervates the sternocostal head. C8-T1
Pectoralis Mjr
Clavicular fibres - Pts palm facing you, resist movement towards pts opposite shoulder.
Sternal fibres - Pt aims thumb at opposite hip and stabilse at opposite hip.
Pectoralis minor attachments
Ribs 3-5 and coracoid process
Pectoralis minor movements
Protraction, depression and downward rotation of scapula
Pectoralis minor nerve supply
Medial pectoral nerve C8-T1
Pectoralis minor
Supine - Just resist shoulder as Pt tries to lift it off the table.
Prone - humerus abducted 90, elbow bent and fist clenched, resist downwards movement of fist.
Serratus anterior attachments
Outer surface of ribs 1-8 and ant surface of vertebral border of scap
Serratus anterior movements
Protraction and upward rotation of scap.
Stabilises scapula vs chest wall.
Serratus anterior nerve supply
Long thoracic nerve (C5-7)
Serratus anterior
Upper fibres - humerus flexed 90, elbow locked and resist movement towards couch.
Lower fibres - Resist other way.
