What’s the order for drawing up insulin?
Clear to cloudy, or Regular to NPH
What is the only insulin that can be given IV?
Regular
Long acting insulin’s?
Glargine- (large lasting)
Detemir- (Lasts all year)
NPH Peak time
4-12 hours, but biggest in the middle at 5-6 hours
Regular insulin peak?
2-4 hours
Aspart, Lispro, and Glulisine peaks?
Onset 15 minutes
Peak 30-90 minutes
What is infective endocarditis?
Inflammation of the inner lining of the heart. Mainly the chambers and valves. The valves often don’t work properly, which creates a murmur and causes the heart to non function effectively leading to poor oxygenation
Chest tube considerations
Symptoms of infective endocarditis
Fever, low oxygen, clubbing and petechia in fingers and mucus membranes, fluid in lungs, chest pain, non productive cough
Biggest complications to monitor for:
Embolic CVA due to clots
