NBC Defense Flashcards
WHAT ARE THE THREE TYPES OF ALARM SYSTEMS FOR CHEMICAL OR BIOLOGICAL ATTACK?
1) VISION ALARMS. 2) LOCAL ALARMS. 3) GENERAL ALARMS.
WHAT ARE FOUR GENERAL INDICATIONS OF A BIOLOGICAL OR CHEMICAL ATTACK?
) SUSPICIOUS LIQUIDS OR SOLIDS ON THE GROUND OR ON VEGETATION.
2) UNEXPLAINED SMOKE OR MIST.
3) DEAD OR SICK ANIMALS, OR BIRDS.
4) SUSPICIOUS ODORS.
WHAT ARE SIX CLUES WHICH MAY INDICATE THE PRESENCE OF A CHEMICAL AGENT?
1) IRRITATION OF EYES, NOSE, THROAT, SKIN.
2) HEADACHE, DIZZINESS, NAUSEA.
3) DIFFICULTY WITH OR INCREASED RATE OF BREATHING.
4) A FEELING OF CHOKING OR TIGHTNESS IN THE THROAT OR CHEST.
5) STRANGE OR OUT-OF-THE-ORDINARY ODORS.
6) STRANGE FLAVORS IN FOOD OR WATER.
WHAT ARE SIX CLUES THAT MAY INDICATE THE PRESENCE OF A BIOLOGICAL AGENT?
1) ENEMY AIRCRAFT DROPPING UNIDENTIFIED MATERIAL OR SPRAYING UNIDENTIFIED SUBSTANCES.
2) NEW OR UNUSUAL TYPES OF SHELLS AND BOMBS PARTICULARY THOSE WHICH BURST WITH LITTLE OR NO BLAST.
3) SMOKE FROM AN UNKNOWN SOURCE OR OF AN UNKNOWN NATURE.
4) AN INCREASE IN SICK OR DEAD ANIMALS.
5) UNUSUAL OR UNEXPLAINED INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF INSECTS.
6) WEAPONS THAT DO NOT SEEM TO HAVE AN IMMEDIATE CASUALTY EFFECT.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOU SUSPECT A CHEMICAL OR BIOLOGICAL ATTACK HAS OCCURED?
MASK IMMEDIATELY, THEM SHOUT “GAS” OR “SPRAY” (IF YOU SEE AN AIR-CRAFT SPRAYING A CLOUD) GIVING THE VISUAL ALARM SIMULTANEOUSLY.

WHAT IS THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF EQUIPMENT IN AN NBC ENVIRONMENT?
THE FIELD PROTECTIVE MASK.
WHAT ARE THE MEASUREMENTS OF A NATO MARKER?
TRIANGULAR MARKER REASURING 11 1/2” ACROSS THE TOP AND 8” ALONG THE SIDES.
WHEN MARKING AN AREA WITH A NATO MARKER, WHICH WAY SHOULD THE SIGN FACE?
PRINTED FACE OF THE MARKER SHOULD FACE AWAY FROM THE DANGEROUS AREA.
WHAT ITEMS SHOULD BE CHECKED TO INSURE THE FIELD PROTECTIVE MASK IS SERVICEABLE?
1) CHECK THE FILTERS. (WET FILTERS DO NOT WORK).
2) CHECK THE NOSECUP TO MAKE SURE IT’S IN THE RIGHT POSITION AND NOT LOOSE FROM THE CRIMPING RING (SEALS
THE VOICEMITTER AND NOSECUP TOGETHER).
3) MAKE SURE THE NOSECUP AND CHEEK POUCHES ARE BUTTONED.
4) CHECK THE RUBBER FACEBLANK FOR ANY DRY ROT OR RIPS.
5) CHECK THE EYELENS FOR SCRATCHES THAT WOULD IMPAIR YOUR VISION AND ALSO FOR CRACKS.
6) CHECK YOUR HEAD HARNESS FOR ELASTICITY AND MAKE SURE THAT THE STRAPS ARE NOT OR FRAYED.
7) CHECK INLET AND OUTLET DISKS TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE SOFT, FLEXIBLE, AND PROPER INSTALLED.
8) CHECK FOR DAMAGED OR MISSING VOICEMITTER AND DRINKING TUBE.
9) MAKE SURE THE HOOD IS NOT TORN OR ROTTED AND THAT ALL STRAPS FUNCTION PROPERLY.
