How did Nazis want children to think
- Be proud Germans
- Loyal supporters of Nazi Party
- Boys and girls to be strong and healthy (boys fight, women mothers)
What activities did groups do?
Boys - Shooting, military drills, signalling
Girls - Cookery, housework, needlework
Both - Hiking, camping, learning about Hitler
How did Nazis control education
Schools - Children attend til 14, girls and boys schools
Teachers - Teachers had to be Nazis, teachers had to attend courses to learn Nazi ideas
Subjects - Girls taught domestic skills, boys science and military
Propaganda - All lessons ended with Nazi salute, Nazi flags in classes
Why did Hitler want workers
- Unemployed were dangerous politically, could revolt or join new party
- Believed by Nazis to be waste on society
How did Hitler increase employement
- Putting money into large projects ( built 7000km motorways connecting country, sport facilities for Olympics)
- Rearmament - Built up stockpile of arms - provided many jobs
What did official figures say about unemployment decrease
4.8 - 0.3 from 1933-39, but didn’t take into account invisible unemployment

What does untermenschen mean
Inferior people - described Jews, Slavs, gypsies
1935 - Nuremberg Laws banned Aryans marrying them

Arrested, sent to concentration camps

Why were Jews persecuted
- Scapegoat for German problems
- Associated with communism (Karl Marx)
- Success jealousy
What were the Nuremberg Laws of 1935?
- Passed to make it easier to persecute Jews
- Only those of German blood are citizens
- Jews must wear yellow star shaped patch to identify
- No jew can marry German citizens/have sexual relations
