Visual, GPS, Celestial, Radar
What is Set and Drift?
Set, course ship is being pushed
Drift, speed ship is being pushed
What does DR stand for and what is it?
Dead reckoning, determining ships position (estimated guess) not taking into account set and drift
What is the difference between true and relative bearing?
True, true north
Relative, relative to ships bearing
What are different bridge watch stations and duties?
OOD, QMOW, BMOW, CONN, HELP, LOOKOUT
What is Variation/Deviation?
Variation, worlds magnetic polarity
Deviation, ships magnetic polarity
QM Equipment and what are they used for?
Fathometer: Depth of water ship is in
Barometer: atmospheric pressure
Sextant: Precision instrument that can measure angles in degrees, minutes, and seconds
Stadimeter: Measures the distance of an object of known height such as a mast
Psychrometer: An instrument used for determining atmospheric humidity consisting of dry-bulb and wet-bulb thermometers
Magnetic Compass: Secondary course in case the gyro goes down
Telescopic Alidade: Telescope equipped with cross hairs, level vial, polarizing light filter and internal focusing
Gyrocompass: Used for keeping the ship on course
VMS
