What is the purpose of HAZMAT?

A

The purpose of hazmat is to not only store hazardous material, but to also issue out to the crew in order to be used for maintenance on the ship.

Explain incompatible hazardous materials.

A

Refers to two (2) or more different substances that when mixed could/will cause a reaction in some form. The way for identifying incompatible material is using the MSDS “MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET” for the material, Hazardous material users guide (HMUG), or incompatibility chart.

What is HICSWIN?

A

HICSWIN is a program that HAZMAT uses to track their inventory of hazmat, and to monitor everything they check out of their inventory. They also use it to print out receipts saying that you checked out and returned your hazmat.

All double bag and tag. Either stored in 55 gallon drum or in a triwall, triple lined with plastic liner. Triwalls need to be on top of wingtip pallets and banded with metal banding.
