Variation is the difference between true and magnetic north

What are the different methods of attaining the ship’s position?
GPS 1, GPS 2, INS 1, INS 2, DAGR, Celestial
What are range/channel markings?
“Traffic lights” that keep the ship in the correct “lane” when traversing to/from port
What is advance/transfer?
Advance: how far forward you travel before final course
Transfer: how far left or right you travel before final course
What are the types of turning circles?
Final diameter is the completion of a 360 degree turn. Tactical diameter is the completion of a 180 degree turn.
What are the underway navigation lights?
2 white mast lights, one fwd, one on the mast.
Stern light, white light
Port running light, red light
For flight quarters we will secure the stern white light and illuminate the blue stern light
What are the in port moored lights?
All deck lights illuminated, forward jack staff white light, aft jack staff white light, aircraft warning light.
(Same for anchored)

What are the engaged in special operations lights?
Also known as restricted in ability to maneuver or task lights. There are 6 task lights, three on each side of the mast. Top light is red, middle light is white, and bottom light is red.
We can use the barrel switch to change the configuration to top red, middle off, and bottom red to indicate not under command. In addition, we can make the red over red indicate man over board, two flashing red lights.
