Engineering Questions Flashcards
Name all Engineering Watch Stations
EOOW, EDO, PAAC, EPCC, Cold Iron Watch, Oil King, Sounding and Security, IEM, ASM, PSM, ERO
What does EOSS stand for?
Engineering Operational Sequencing System
What are all the engineering spaces?
Fwd VCHT, AUX1, MER1, AUX2, MER2, Shaft Alley, 3GEN, Aft Steering
How many GTEs are there?
Seven
4 GTM and 3 GTG
Where are the 7 GTEs located?
1GTG: AUX1
1A/B GTM: MER1
2A/B and 2GTG: MER2
3GTG: 3GEN
What kinds of GTMs are onboard?
LM2500 Marine Gas Turbine Engines
What are the types of Lube Oil and what equipment are they used for?
2190: line shaft bearing, HPAC, MRG CRP
23699: GTE
2135: HIPUS, Anchor Windlass
What kinds of GTGs are onboard?
The allison 501-K34 GTG is a single shaft engine with a 14 stage axial flow compressor, can-annular, combustor and four stage turbine
What are the GTGs rated at?
4009 amps, 2500 KW, 450 VAC, 3 phase, 60 Hertz, at a .8 PF
What causes the GTGs to have a .8 Power Factor?
Friction and distance of cable
How many switchboards are there and what are they rated at?
3, one for each GTG and they are rated at 60hz
What is an MRG and how many bearings does it have?
Main Reduction Gear, 30
What does the MRG do?
The MRG converts high speed, low torque input of the GTM to low speed, high torque output for the shaft and propeller
What is the functional description of the MRG?
Double input, double reduction, double helical, single output, locked train, articulated
What is the reduction ratio of the MRG?
21.37 to 1
Where are the MRGs located?
STBD: MER1
Port: MER2
What is masker air used for?
Masks high frequency noise emitted by machinery in the main spaces
What is the CRP for?
To vary the angle of attack of the propeller blades, AKA pitch
What is Prairie Air used for?
Changes the signature of the ship’s propellers
What are the 3 subdivisions of L/P Air?
Vital Air, Non Vital Air, Electronic Dry Air
