The transponder provides radar identification of the aircraft on a selected ATC code. The transponder receiver/transmitter, located on the avionics rack, will reply with the selected ATC code (A Mode) for identification when interrogated by a ground radar station. When C Mode is selected the encoded altitude is taken from the No. 1. and No. 2. ADC and transmitted when interrogated by a ground radar station.
