NAVA Flashcards
What is NAVA
Mode designed to assist with spontaneous ventilation
The breath that is delivered is similar to PS but the support given is variable and proportional to spontaneous effort
The harder the patient works, the more support the ventilator delivers =POSITIVE-FEEDBACK!
The less the patient works, the less support is provided
Nava is based on what
Based on Continuous Diaphragmatic EMG - Stronger signal, Increased support level
PAV Vs. NAVA
Affected for leaks and autoPEEP
PAV- Affected by leaks and autoPEEP
NAVA- Not affected by leaks and autoPEEP
PAV Vs. NAVA
Recommended for who
PAV- Pt > 20 kg
NAVA- Neo, ped, and adults with no weight restriction
PAV Vs. NAVA
Invasive or non-invasive
PAV- Available invasively and non-invasively
NAVA-Available invasively and non-invasively
PAV Vs. NAVA
What is needed
PAV- No additional hardware is needed during the application
NAVA-Requires a special nasogastric catheter
PAV Vs. NAVA
What is measured
PAV-Measures airway pressure, flow, and volume in order to calculate elastance and resistance
NAVA-Measures diagrammatic elctromyography (EMG)
