Where does the springbok get its name from?
It gets its common name from its common characteristic jumping display- pronk in Afrikaans. Spring-jump bok-buck.

What is our national fish?
Galjoen
Where is the Galjoen found?
The fish is only found along the coast of South Africa. It keeps mostly to shallow water, and is sometimes found in rough surf,next to shore.
What is our national bird?
The blue crane.
Describe the blue cranes appearance? (5)
Stands about a meter tall
Light blue-gray in colour
Has a long neck supporting a rather bulbous head
Long legs and elegant wing plumes which sweep to the ground.

The king protea
Where is the king protea found?
It is found in the south western and southern areas of the western cape from Cedarburg up to just east of Grahamstown.

The real yellowwood

Where is the yellowwood tree found?
Table mountain along the southern and eastern cape coast in the ravines of the drakensburg, right up to the Soutpansberg and the Blouberg in the Limpopo province.
