What is the NDIS
The NDIS is a national insurance scheme that provides services and support for people with permanent, significant disabilities and their families and carers.
Who is the NDIS funded by?
The NDIS is funded by the federal and state/territory governments. Governance, and funding is shared by all over the government
Who is eligible for the NDIS?
To be eligible for the NDIS a person must be age 65 and under and meet the residency and disability requirements.
Requirements for the NDIS
Residency requirements:
- An Australian citizen or have a permanent Visa
- Live in Australia where the NDIS is available
Disability requirements:
- Have an impairment or condition that is likely to be permanent.
The impairment reduces ability to participate effectively in activities or perform tasks unless they have:
- Assistance from other people
- Assistive technology
- Can’t participate effectively with assistance, aids and equipment
What the NDIS does
What the NDIS does:
The NDIS helps people with disabilities to:
- Access mainstream services and supports including healthcare, education, public-housing, aged care and address the justice system.
- Access community services and support including supporting clubs, libraries, charities and community groups
- Maintain informal support arrangements including the unpaid help from family and friends
- Receive reasonable and necessary funded support such as financial support from NDIS as required to live an ordinary life. Financial support is not means tested.
NDIS in promoting health
It’s a lifetime approach of the NDIS and the financial investment provided to those with a disability promotes physical health outcomes. The peace of mind for their carers is knowing they will get the support they need promote mental health and well-being. The NDIS also promote physical and social health and well-being those with a disability access to community services such as sporting clubs, libraries and community groups.
Sustainability of NDIS
- The role out of the NDIS over three years insures that it is sustainable. The support provided by the NDIS is for the lifetime of the person with a disability.
Access of NDIS
- The NDIS aims to provide the necessary financial support to access the required services to achieve their goals and promote health for all Australians with disability.
Equity of NDIS
- The NDIS is equitable as it insures people with a disability and their carers, who need support are able to access the support they need
