The Pope and the King of Naples signed treaties, paying the French indemnities to survive.

Hoche sent 15,000 troops to mainland Britain, but weather dispersed them, and soon after they were defeated- 33 casualties.

What was Sieyes’ plan?
Persuade Directors to resign and persuade the two Councils to appoint a commission for a new Constitution under the pretense of a Jacobin rebellion.

Both councils left paris (they were warned) to St Cloud where 6000 troops protected them.
Which Directors resigned?
Sieyes, Barras and Ducos- the other two placed under house arrest

They realised they had been duped and didn’t declare in Napoleon’s favour

he stormed into the Council of Ancients, this was viewed differently.
What occurred with the Council of 500?
The 500 attacked him, Lucien managed to save him and called in the grenadiers, causing the 500 to jump out to escape.

they appointed 3 Consuls during drafting of new Con. Ducos, Sieyes and N

That the Councils had ignored his please for change, instead attacking him
How did Napoleon change Sieyes’ ideas on the Con?
N took Sieyes’ place as the primary Consul, not even accepting being a “figurehead”.
How was power split in the new Con?
First Consul, with voix consultative, Senate, Tribunate and Leg. Body (all chosen by N) and dilution of voting from 6,000,000 to 6000
When/what was the Law of 2/3?
October 1795- required 2/3 of the electorate to be the Conventions’ regardless of voting in departments.
