Superior Sagittal, anterior-posteriror or median plane
Divide the body into left and right
Frontal, lateral, or coronal plane
divide body into front and back
Transverse or horizontal plane
Upper and lower half of the body.
Abduction
A limb away from the midline of the body
Adduction
movement of a limb back towards the midline of the body.
Flexion/ Horizontal flexion
A movement that result in a decrease in angle between two bones in an anterior posterior plane.
Extension/ horizontal Extension
reverse of flexion
Pronation
medial rotation of the forearm which brings the palm of the hand downward
supination
Lateral rotation of the forearm which brings the palm of the hand upward.
Elevation
Body being lifted upward : shoulder shrug
Depression
Opposite of elevation
Plantar flexion
Using the calf muscle to point the toes and foot downwards
Dorsiflexion
raising the toes and foot up towards the shin
Eversion /Inversion
confide to ankle joint. Inversion consist of turning ankle to that the plantar surface of the foot faces medially, towards the opposite foot.
Anatomical position
Standing upright, feet forward, palms face outwards
