Names of muscles Flashcards
orbicularis oris
a circular muscle that moves the lips
orbicularis occuli
a circular muscle that closes the eye
occipitofrontalis
muscle elevates the scalp and eyebrows. The muscle has a frontal belly and an occipital belly
epicranial aponeurosis
tendon that connects the bellys of the occipitofrontalis
muscles that move the lower jaw
temporalis, masseter, medial and lateral pterygoid
teres major
origin: inferior angle of the scapula
insertion: the intertubercular groove of the humerus.
coracobrachialis
origin: coracoid process of the scapula
insertion: anterior humerus.
Brachialis
origin: the anterior humerus
insertion: more narrowly at the coronoid process of the ulna.
Biceps brachii
The short head originates on the coracoid of the scapula
The long head originates on the superior lip of glenoid of the scapula.
The two heads merge and insert onto the radial tuberosity
The brachioradialis
origin: distal lateral humerus
insertion: at the styloid process of the radius.
Triceps brachii
The long head originating on the inferior glenoid
The medial head originating on the distal, posterior humerus
The lateral head originating on the proximal, posterior humerus
Inserts Posterior surface of the olecranon process of the ulna, capsule of the elbow joint and antebrachial fascia.
The pectineus
– this muscle originates on the superior arm of the pubis and inserts onto the proximal femur just below the lesser trochanter.
The tensor fascia latae (TFL)
– this muscle originates on the ASIS and posterior iliac spine. It inserts into the IT band
Rectus femoris
originates on the ilium at the anterior inferior iliac spine (AIIS) and the superior lip of the acetabulum. Along with the other quads (discussed later), this muscle inserts indirectly onto the tibial tuberosity of the anterior tibia.
Gluteus Maximus
Orgin: ilium, Sacrum, and Coccyx
Insertion: Gluteal tuberosity of femur, Iliotibial (IT) tract (band)
Semitendinosus
Orgin: ischial tuberosity
Insertion: medial condyle tibia
semimembranosus
Orgin: ischial tuberosity
Insertion: medial condyle tibia
(right underneath semitendinosus)
Biceps femoris
Orgin: ischial tuberosity
Insertion: fibula
adductor magnus
Orgin: pubis
Insertion: linea aspera
adductor longus
Orgin: Pubis
Insertion: linea apsera
adductor brevis
Orgin: pubis
Insertion: linea aspera
gracilis
orgin: pubis
insertion: medial aspect of proximal part of tibia
Gluteus medius
origin: ilium
insertion:Greater trochanter of
femur
