Naloxone Action
A
Reverses effects caused by opioids:
- Respiratory depression
- Sedation
- Hypotension

Naloxone Adverse Effects
A
- Opioid withdrawal (Nausea and vomiting, sweating, tachycardia, hypertension and combative behaviour)
- Pulmonary oedema in pts with pre-existing cardiac disease
- Dysrhythmias (VT/VF)

Naloxone Contraindications
A
Neonates born to opioid addicted mothers due to risk of inducing opioid withdrawal

Naloxone Preparation
A
400mcg in 1mL - diluted to 4mL with 3mL NaCl

A
- Opioid overdose
- Etorphine or Buprenorphine overdose
