Atropine Action
A
- Antagonises parasympathetic effect of acetylcholine on muscarinic receptors resulting in:
- Increased heart rate
- Reducing smooth muscle contraction causing pupillary dilation, reduced GI motility and reduced bladder tone
- Blocks exocrine gland activity causing decreased salivary, bronchial, gastric, and sweat secretions

Atropine Adverse Effects
A
- Dry mouth
- Blurred vision
- Tachycardia
- Nausea and vomiting
- Hyperthermia
- Dysrhythmias
- Agitation, delirium, hallucinations, seizures, and coma may occur in high doses
- Urinary retention

Atropine Preparations
A
- 600mcg in 1mL, diluted with 5mL NaCl to make 600mcg in 6mL
- 2mg in Atropen autoinjector
