Droperidol Action
A
- Droperidol produces marked tranquilisation and sedation
- May decrease BP due to direct vasodilaroty effect and alpha block
- Droperidal potentiates other CNS depressants, e.g. narcotic analgesics such as fentanyl and benzodiazepines

Droperidol Adverse Effects
A
- Extrapyramidal reactions
- Rarely, neuroleptic malignant syndrome (characterised by muscle rigidity, fever, hyperthermia, altered consciousness and autonomic instability)

Droperidal Contraindications
A
- Pts with known or suspected hypersensitivity to droperidol
- <14yrs of age
- Pts with Parkinson’s disease
