• Droperidol produces marked tranquilisation and sedation
• May decrease BP due to direct vasodilaroty effect and alpha block
• Droperidal potentiates other CNS depressants, e.g. narcotic analgesics such as fentanyl and benzodiazepines

• Extrapyramidal reactions
• Rarely, neuroleptic malignant syndrome (characterised by muscle rigidity, fever, hyperthermia, altered consciousness and autonomic instability)

• Pts with known or suspected hypersensitivity to droperidol
• <14yrs of age
• Pts with Parkinson’s disease
