Ibuprofen Aciton
A
- Inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis which is important in the mediation of pain, fever and inflammation
- Provides anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects well suited to musculoskeletal injuries

Ibuprofen Adverse Effects
A
- Nausea and vomiting
- GI irritation
- Diarrhoea
- Renal impairment
- Uncommon - hypersensitivity reactions with urticaria and pruritus

Ibuprofen Contraindications
A
- Active, suspected or known bleeding tendency
- Hx of allergic reactions to NSAID’s
- Pts with astha who have a Hx of wheeze post NSAID administration or who have not previously taken an NSAID
- Active peptic ulcer disease or GI bleeding
- Dehydration
- Renal impariment
- Pregnancy
- Severe heart failure
- Pts <7yrs of age
- Self administration in last 4-6rhs
- 1.2g within 24hrs for >12yrs of age
- 800mg within 24hrs for pts >7yrs and <12yrs
