Are hemorrhages present in ON? Pain?
- No hemorrhages

- Small crowded disc
- Metabolic syn.
- Genetic
- Sleep Apnea
What is the main cause of NAION?
BP falls too low:
- medically induced or nocturnal
What medications can cause NAION?
- Amiodarone
- Viagra, Cialis
- Flu Vaccine
What is the visual loss in NAION? How long to recognize it?
- 50% = better than 20/64
- 34% = worse than 20/200
- Takes 3-4 days
What is the main VF defect seen in an NAION?
Altitudinal Defect or Secocentral defect
To determine if affected eye is by NAION, what should you look for in the fellow eye?
- Anomalous disc
- if cupped, think AAION - 18% of fellow eyes are affected
What should we tell our patients with NAION?
- No tx
- stop smoking
- Avoid hypertensives

Sometimes hemes
