The red box appears when you are zoomed into an image in the viewer It acts as a positioning control to move about the image. Drag inside the box to change the portion of the image displayed in the viewer. To remove the red box, type SHIFT + Z. Or click the percent menu at the top right corner of the viewer and change the percentage to “fit”.

You Will need to go to your preferences in FCPX and click “Use Original or Optimized Media”. This should “re-connect’ your timeline edit to the original files for best quality. If you leave it on Proxy, your export will be scaled in bitrate and size from the proxy media. After you’ve done this, you can Export a master Quicktime movie with any version of ProRes that you want, including HQ. Depending on how you imported your files, sometimes checking the “Use Original or Optimized Media” button in preferences won’t reconnect your media. Usually if you use FCPX to create Proxy files, it will know where the original media lives and reconnect to it. However, if you made proxy files via another application and imported them directly, in this case, you would need to manually reconnect your Event files to the original media.

How do you convert media after importing the files?✅
Simply select the clips in the Event Browser that you want to transcode and select File > Transcode media. Then you have three choices: -If nothing is checked. Final Cut imports the media and edits it in camera native format. This generally provides the greatest savings in storage space, but often requires faster computers to avoid a performance hit. -If optimize is checked. Final Cut converts the camera native format into ProRes 422. This provides the best possible performance and image quality, but requires additional storage space (roughly 60 GB per hour of material). - If proxy is checked. Not all camera formats require optimizing. If the Optimize option is grayed out, it means that the camera format is already optimized and would not benefit if converted into ProRes 422. (DV and AVC-Intra are two examples of already-optimized media formats.)

Amazingly easy.
Just click on the two clips.
Then, go up to “Clip” in the top menu bar and choose “synchronize clips” from the drop down menu.
On 07.20.21, I took two different video clips and THEY APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN TURNED INTO A SINGLE CLIP with the good audio from the HN1.

Use fade to color, which defaults to black.
How do I see properties of a mov file
Right click on the file (control -click) Click on “get info”
What do you do when you get an error message on a flashdrive that says the file you are trying to transfer is “too large for the volume’s format”?
Run “Disk Utility” on Mac. Select your flash drive, displayed on the left side. Click on the “Erase” tab. The hard drive erasing tab will pop up. “Set a name and the GUID Partition Map will pop up.” (I did not do this) Choose “ExFAT” from the dropdown menu for the format, and name your drive Click “Erase”
What is a video codec?
The codec (or coder-decoder) is the software that compresses and decompresses the video and audio data housed in a container. This reduces file sizes, making footage much easier to work with. Simply put, without compression, one hour of HD footage could easily fill a hard drive. Each codec will compress footage differently, so the best choice will depend entirely on what the content creator wants to preserve
What is a file format?
The container such as .mov, .avi, and .mp4. These file types function as a sort of “box” that “contains” the video, audio, and metadata (that’s the extra info attached to each file, like file names, tags, codec info, etc.), allowing it to function as a single file
How do you create proxy media?
- Control-click one or more clips in the Final Cut Pro browser, then choose Transcode Media.
- In the window that appears, select the “Create optimized media” checkbox, the “Create proxy media” checkbox, or both, then click OK.
