Airworthiness directives
- notify aircraft owners and other interested persons of unsafe conditions and to specify the conditions under which the product may continue to operate
- legally enforace rules that apply to aircraft, aircraft engines, propellers, appliances

VFR - none
IFR - require VOR reciever check within 30 days

Inspections
who?
AMT - aviation maintenance technician
issued by FAA 14 CFR Part 65, hold an aircraft mechanic certificate with bth airframe and powerplant ratings
out of service - not worthy until completed repairs or inspections
inspection authorization IA: certain licensed and experienced aviation maintenance technical AMTs allows them to perform annual and progessive inspections
A&P - airframe and powerplant
Inspection types
annual
- once within 12 calendar months
- special flight permit from FAA FSDO can fly one time only to location where annual inspection can be completed
100 hr
- can be completed by A&P mechanic
- no more exceeded by 10hrs for the purpose of inspection
progessive inspection
- to replace annual and 100hr inspection
- exempts operator from performing annual inspections provided all events are completed within 12 calendar months
ie. cabin, engine, wings&landing gear, empennage at 50hrs
50hrs = 1 event
4 events = 1 cycle = annual
Altimeter & Static system
- 24 calendar months
- tested and inspected IFR
Transponder
- 24 calendar months
- tested and inspected
ELT
- 12 calender months
batteries must be replaced or recharged - when transmitter has been in use for more than 1 cumlative hour
- when 50% battery useful life has expired
- expirary date must be legibly marked and entered in aircraft maintanence record
