Mutations and Reproductive Tech. Flashcards
What is a process called in which one more or less chromosomes end up in gametes
Nondisjunction
How does nondisjunction happen?
It happens during meiosis 1 or 2 in anaphase. One more chromosome is dragged to one cell, while another doesn’t get one.
What is the outcome of nondisjunction during meiosis 1?
You get two double haploid cells 2(n+1 and n-1). It will later result in gametes with two of them having n+1 and two having n+1.
What is the outcome of nondisjunction during meiosis 2?
There will be two normal gametes and one n-1 and one n+1.
What are 4 types of mutation?
Translocation, Deletion, Inversion, and Duplication
What is Translocation?
it’s when one part of chromosome is inserted in non-homologous chromosome.
What is Deletion?
It’s when part of gene is absent
What is Duplication?
It’s when part of the gene is duplicated multiple times.
What is Inversion?
It’s when part of the gene turns upside down.
